Pediatric dentistry takes a certain finesse since children don’t usually look forward to a trip to the dentist, but at Hawkins Family Dental we strive to make a child’s first visit to the dentist an enjoyable one so that kids actually look forward to it the next time around.
When Should I Start Bringing my Child to the Dentist?
We would like to see your child for their first visit around the age of 2, unless you feel like there is a problem that needs to be treated before then. Their primary teeth will start coming in between 6 and 12 months of age, so it’s important for you to help your child form proper dental hygiene habits before they see us.
Their permanent teeth will start coming in around age 6, but it is important to care for their baby teeth in the same way you would their permanent teeth with regular brushing, flossing, and dental visits. Baby teeth are just as susceptible to tooth decay as adult teeth and these early visits to the dentist set the foundation for a lifetime of good oral health.
What Should I Expect at my Child’s Dentist Appointment?
Our dentists and hygienists make a point of explaining each tool and procedure to your child so they can feel at ease and unafraid of what is happening. We recommend fluoride treatments twice a year along with their regular cleanings and we can also discuss the use of sealants to further protect your child’s teeth from tooth decay. Children have their picture added to our “No Cavity Club” and they always leave our dental practice with a balloon, stickers, a prize, and a bright, clean smile!
What if my Child Needs Restorative Dentistry?
Restorative dental care plays an important role in keeping your child’s oral health on track into adulthood and at Hawkins Family Dental we provide basic restorative services from crowns to space maintainers all while striving to keep them comfortable and relaxed through the process. Having a tooth extracted or a cavity filled is never fun, but we try to make the experience as enjoyable as possible for our young patients.
At Hawkins Family Dental in Gainesville, GA, we can provide you with all of your pediatric dentistry needs. Whether your child visits us for a regular cleaning or a cavity filling, our kind, gentle staff will make them feel comfortable and at ease.Leave a reply →
