Oral Surgery/Dental Extractions
Oral Surgery/Dental Extractions- We offer extractions, one of the most recognized forms of oral surgery, to our patients. Dental extractions are crucial for patients who have teeth that are beyond repair from dental disease such as tooth decay or periodontal disease. Impaction or pathology can also necessitate extractions. Some extractions will require advanced surgical techniques. We utilize the areas top oral and maxillofacial surgeons in order to provide you with the highest standard of care in these circumstances.
TMJ and Chronic Oral/Facial Pain
TMD (TMJ) and Chronic oral/facial pain- TMD (temperomandibular joint disorder) and chronic head and oral/facial pain are problems that we encounter frequently in our society today due to our high stress and busy lifestyles. This is a condition that we see and treat regularly in our office. The symptoms associated with these problems are numerous and also mimic other diseases. A proper diagnosis is critical and often times the treatments are as simple as counseling and short term medications. Some conditions require splint therapy and other may require a referral to an oral medicine specialist.
Endodontics/Root Canals- Endodontic therapy is the process of removing the nerves, infection, and inflammation that lies in the root canal to relieve pain and infection in the tooth or teeth. We offer Endodontic Therapy and Root Canal services at our practice and we also work with the areas top endodontists to provide this care. The complexity of the root canal anatomy and the extent of the infection of the affected tooth will determine if you will be referred to a specialist in order to receive the highest standard of care possible.
Sleep Apnea Appliances
Sleep Apnea appliances- Hawkins Family Dental provides Sleep Apnea appliances for patients after proper diagnosis and referral from a physician such as a pulmonologist, ENT, or general practitioner. Patients require a sleep study or polysomnograph prior to any form of treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. Dental patients who have or are experiencing mild to moderate sleep apnea disorder and are interested in an oral appliance for treatment should consult with there physician to determine if they are a candidate. Once this determination is made and we are notified by the physician, we can provide custom oral appliances.
Periodontics- Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss and as such gum health is the foundation of your dental health. We provide preventative periodontal care such as regular cleanings as well as more advanced periodontal care such as deep cleaning or root scaling and planning. We are fortunate to have some very talented periodontists in our area that we work with to provide you with the highest standard of care possible. If your gum condition warrants it, we will refer you to one of these specialists.
Children have been one of the most enjoyable aspects of our practice since it was started in 1978. We can provide most dental care for children from their first appointment until they are adults. We encourage moms and dads to bring their children with them to one of their cleaning appointment so that their child can watch first before their first appointment. We take this opportunity to let the child show us there teeth as well as answer any questions parents might have. Children always leave with a balloon and stickers as well as a prize, and have their picture taken for our “no cavity club”. Occasionally severe dental disease at a very young age or developmental disorders may necessitate the referral to a pediatric dentist. We are fortunate to have several excellent pediatric dentists in our area to send your child to if necessary.
